I haven’t said much about OWS so far, but oh man, am I in the protesters’ corner.
A couple of items:
First: A newshound from the right wing Daily Caller attempted to report on those despicable protesters marring the peace of our beautiful Wall Street … and was promptly beaten to the ground by cops.
Just as promptly, the protesters came to her aid.
“Direna had a camera in her hand and I had a microphone, and we were being hit,” she said. “When I fell to the ground I said at one point, ‘I’m just covering this! I’m covering this!’ And the officer just said, ‘Come on, get up, get up,’ before pulling me up by my jacket.” “The protesters came up to me right away and asked if I needed any medical assistance. They were actually very kind and helpful. It was the police officers who were very aggressive,” Fields added.
Second: EVERY TIME I see a story in which a company has developed new high-tech “non-lethal” weapons, the sales pitch is that it will keep our soldiers safer, or will allow guards to control prison riots, or will only be used defensively.
And EVERY TIME I wonder aloud, “Right. But how long before it’s used against civilian populations?”
When tasers came out, I KNEW they would eventually be used against 86-year-old grandmothers and 6-year-old elementary school kids.
And now the Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) — also referred to as the sound cannon, has reportedly been used against Occupy Wall Street protesters, both in New York and Oakland.
LRADs were developed after the terrorist attack on the USS Cole in 2000 and were meant to serve essentially defensive purposes …
Right. Other than the possible permanent hearing loss by unarmed civilians, hey, the things are totally harmless.
