Getting here from there

One of the little things you get with the WordPress blogging package is a statistics page that tells you all sorts of little things about how many people are reading your site, what specific articles they’re reading, what they clicked on while here, etc. And my favorite, a list of the search terms people used that led them to your site.

For instance, if you Google “blue collar atheist,” you’ll get several links to this blog, but also to stories elsewhere that reference it. In that same vein, someone Googled “clint eastwood gays” in the past week and got here, obviously, because I had a recent post about Clint Eastwood’s opinion of gay marriage.

Several searchers hit on my recently-mentioned pet peeve, the misspelling of the word “atheist,” in their search strings:

is michael bloomberg an athiest
clint eastwood athiest
athiest killing

Various terms popped up about banning religion:

ban all religion 2011
how we can ban religion
we should outlaw religion
can we ban religion
why we should ban all religions
should we ban all religion
australia banning religion
atheists try to ban religion

… which I thought was sort of hopeful, I mean that people were thinking about it, until I saw that last one and realized that at least some of these were from nice Christians who’d been told our Evil Master Plan.

But then there are search phrases that just leave you baffled. What possible connection can there be between Blue Collar Atheist and — ?

jesus fish logos vector
what are blues drugs
campaign buttons, go live
fox leg collar
free drugs
jeezus ook

Although “jeezus ook” sounds like something I definitely need to write about.

I’m picturing a children’s book.
